Italiaanse spiegels

Van Venetiaanse spiegels, zwarte rechte spiegelljisten uit de 17e eeuw tot rijkelijk gestoken bladgoud vergulde spiegels. Veelal zijn de vergulde spiegels uit de 18e eeuw net wat rijkelijker en verfijnder dan hun Franse tijdgenoten.

Venetië staat natuurlijk op nummer 1, als je het hebt over spiegelateliers. Daarnaast zijn veel mooie spiegels oorspronkelijk in het Noorden van Italië gemaakt, en dan vooral in Toscane.

1715 – 1730

Regence

Dit is de overgangsperiode in de franse geschiedenis tussen 1715 en 1723, toen het land in naam van de minderjarige koning Lodewijk XV werd bestuurd door de regent Filips van Orléans. Meer nadruk op raffinement. De logge, pompeuze, symmetrische barok maakt langzaam maar zeker plaats voor meer luchtige en speelse vormen van decoratie, om onder Lodewijk XV uit te monden in de frivole Rococo. Kenmerkend zijn het schub- en schelpmotief, dierenfiguren en opkrullende bladeren.
